  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • For Frosting: 4 tbsp butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 3 tbsp heavy cream
  • Patriotic sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add in egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together baking powder, flour, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients into wet ingredients until fully combined.
  4. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan and bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges.
  5. Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. While cooling, prepare the frosting by beating together softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Add vanilla extract and heavy cream; mix until creamy.
  7. Once cooled completely, frost the bars and decorate with patriotic sprinkles before cutting into squares.
