  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • ½ teaspoon all spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, nutmeg, ginger, and all spice.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix in Dr. Pepper soda and fold in chopped fruits.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients alternately with boiling water until smooth.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 34 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow cooling completely before frosting.
