  • 4 small 3 oz. lean sirloin steaks
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, pressed or finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger (or 2 teaspoons powdered ginger)
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (less if serving to children)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Salt and pepper (if desired)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sliced green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pound the sirloin steaks to about 1.5 centimeters thick and slice them into long strips.
  2. Thread 2-3 steak strips onto skewers.
  3. In a baking dish, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, sriracha, and optional salt and pepper.
  4. Marinate the skewers for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  5. Preheat your grill to high heat and grill skewers for 5 minutes on one side and 3-4 minutes on the other side.
  6. Let rest under foil for 5 minutes before serving.
