  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt (for frosting)
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 1/3 cup dark cocoa powder (for decoration)
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream (for decoration)
  • 1 cup coarse sanding sugar
  • 48 orange sweetheart or conversation heart candies, cut in half
  • Round, flat, black sprinkles
  • Round, flat, pink sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together unsalted butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add granulated sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, dark cocoa powder, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder. Gradually blend this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut out 3-inch circles. Place them on prepared cookie sheets about two inches apart.
  5. Bake for 13 minutes or until edges are set; allow cooling completely before decorating.
  6. Prepare frosting by beating unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually adding powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream to achieve a light consistency.
  7. Decorate cooled cookies with frosting, add sanding sugar for sparkle, and finish with candies or sprinkles.
