  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and maple sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add powdered sugar, pure maple syrup, and maple extract; mix until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, and salt before gradually adding to the butter mixture.
  4. Chill the dough wrapped in plastic wrap for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll out chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut out shapes with a maple leaf cookie cutter.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are barely golden brown; cool on wire racks.
  8. Prepare the cream filling by mixing remaining butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  9. Assemble cookies by spreading filling between two cookie halves.
