  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • Optional: red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, scallions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken by placing each breast in a Ziploc bag and pounding to an even thickness of about ½ inch.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together soy sauce, apple sauce, onion, sesame oil, ginger, brown sugar, and garlic. If desired, add red pepper flakes for heat. Reserve ¼ cup for later use.
  3. Marinate the pounded chicken in the remaining marinade within the Ziploc bag. Seal and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill each chicken breast for 2–3 minutes on each side until cooked through and juices run clear.
