Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1¼ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 fresh jalapeños, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano and basil)
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and active dry yeast in a small bowl; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, dried herbs, minced garlic, shredded cheese, and chopped jalapeños. Create a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until smooth using a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough pulls away from the sides but remains slightly sticky.
  4. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until elastic and smooth; add more flour if necessary.
  5. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down gently to release air bubbles; shape into a loaf or rolls and place on parchment-lined baking sheets. Cover again and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
