Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oranges
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 2/3 cups water
  • Spices (cinnamon, cloves, star anise)
  • Your preferred chocolate for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oranges: Wash and slice the oranges into rounds approximately 0.3 inches wide. Blanch in boiling water for 5-10 minutes if desired.
  2. Cook the Orange Slices: In a heavy-bottomed pot, combine sugar, spices, and water. Stir until dissolved, then add orange slices and cook on low heat for about 1.5 hours until translucent.
  3. Dry the Orange Slices: Drain excess liquid using a slotted spoon and place on paper towels. Preheat oven to 212°F (100°C) and arrange slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake Them Perfectly: Bake for 15 minutes, flip each slice over, and bake for another 15 minutes until slightly dried but still pliable.
  5. Dip in Chocolate: Let cool completely before melting your preferred chocolate. Dip each slice halfway into chocolate, allowing excess to drip off before placing back on parchment.
